How to set up Tags and Buffers for Rewards?

Summary

In this guide, we will show you how to set up tags and buffers for your rewards. As the administrator, you have the ability to set up a limit on the number of times a reward can be redeemed by using the reward 'tags' and 'buffers'.

  • Tag: a label that can be attached to a reward and then used to categorise rewards or filter and group data for specific purposes.
  • Buffer: a time space that you can apply to a reward, or group of rewards, so that users cannot redeem the same reward within X (i.e., the buffer time space) days.

Pro Tip: First create a tag that will be useful to group common rewards... then apply a buffer to that tag.

For example, you may have a number of clothing merchandise rewards (e.g., socks, hat, water bottle, coffee cup) that you would only like a user to be able to redeem once every fortnight. To enforce this, you would:

  1. Create a tag 'Clothing Merchandise' and apply it to all the relevant clothing merchandise rewards.
  2. Create a two week buffer and assign it to the 'Clothing Merchandise' tag.
  3. Result: now any reward that has a 'Clothing Merchandise' tag will collectively have the two week buffer restriction applied. E.g., the user can redeem a hat today, and in two weeks time could only then proceed to redeem any other Clothing Merchandise reward item. If the user tries to redeem a second item within the buffer period, they will be shown an error message.
