2026-09: Moves+ Releases in September

A Moves+ app release went to the App Store and Google Play on 17 September, carrying the new activity processing service described below. Admin dashboard updates are delivered continuously.

Introducing a new activity processing service

🚀 What is new

  • A brand new activity processing service behind version 5.5.0, which significantly improves how reliably Moves+ reads activity from Apple Health, Health Connect and Garmin.
  • A permissions step on first opening the updated app. Members may be asked to sign in again, and are then prompted to reconfirm their tracker permissions and choose how much data Moves+ can access. Allowing everything is worth doing, as that is what the new service reads.
  • A visible sync. Pulling down on the home screen now starts a sync and shows a "sync in progress" message, so members can see that something is happening.
  • The known syncing issues are addressed, including the fault that stopped activity reaching Moves+ for some Android members.

🎯 What's in it for your members

  • Activity that was not being picked up should start counting again, without anyone needing to disconnect or reinstall anything.
  • A single, more robust route into Moves+ for all three supported connections, rather than a separate integration behaving differently per tracker.
  • Clear feedback in the app that a sync has started, instead of having to guess.

What your members need to do

  1. Update Moves+ to version 5.5.0 from the App Store or Play Store.
  2. Open the app. They may be asked to sign in again. Once they are in, they should be prompted to reconfirm their tracker permissions and choose how much data Moves+ can access.
  3. Go to the home screen and pull down to refresh. They should see a "sync in progress" message.
  4. Wait. The first sync can take several hours. Please ask members to allow at least one full day before reporting a problem.

On activity that was missed. The focus of this release is on activity counting correctly from here. Some historical activity may be picked up when the first sync runs, but that is not guaranteed and we are confirming the exact behaviour. Point adjustments for a missed period are made by your organisation rather than by OpenPlay, and we hold the affected date ranges for the members who contacted us directly.

Improvements

Tracker guidance rewritten across the Help Centre

  • Around 18 tracker articles were reviewed and rewritten so that what members find in the Help Centre matches how the app actually works.
  • Advice that did not work, and in some cases made things worse, has been removed. That includes instructions to uninstall and reinstall the app, and to disconnect a tracker as a troubleshooting step.
  • The current position on each tracker is now stated plainly: Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android are the supported route; Garmin keeps working for members who are already connected and should not be disconnected; Strava, Withings and Fitbit are no longer supported.
  • Every tracker article now ends with a working contact route, at moves@openplay.co.uk.

Fixes & reliability improvements

  • Trackers: Addressed the fault that stopped activity reaching Moves+ for some Android members from the end of April. Affected members need version 5.5.0 and the reconnection steps above; reinstalling the app was never a fix for this and is no longer suggested anywhere.
