Keeping points fair: spotting unusual activity

Limit what any member can earn, find unusual activity, and act on it.

Time required: 15 minutes

User role: Administrator

Module: Moves+ admin > Users, Reporting

What Moves+ does for you

Moves+ counts a workout recorded by two apps once, and flags suspected duplicate records on the user's page. It does not detect unusual activity or block anyone automatically. A member can keep earning and claiming rewards until you act.

Steps

1. Set a daily points cap

A cap limits the activity points any member can earn in a day. See Points conversion and daily caps.

2. Find the highest earners

In Reporting, create a report from Moves Daily User Activity, or from its Current Month, Last Three Months or Historical version. Sort by Points, Steps Walked or a distance column. See How to create a report.

Look for patterns, for example very high step counts every day, or long runs or rides day after day.

3. Check the user's activity

In the sidebar, select Users, find the user and click View. On the Activity tab, check the daily totals and any Potential Duplicate Data Detected warning. To see each record's source, start and end time, see How to view activity records.

4. Check the user's points

On the Points tab, each entry shows Added / Removed, Amount, Source and Created. The side panel shows Current Points, Earned Points, Spent Points and Removed Points.

5. Correct the points

To remove points, click Modify Points. You cannot take a user below 0. See How to add or remove points for a user.

6. Restrict the account if needed

  • Block User stops the member signing in for a week, month, quarter or year. You must give a reason. See How to block or unblock a user.
  • Change User Status to Deactivated stops the member signing in until you reactivate them. It also disconnects their tracker and removes them from their groups. See How to deactivate a user.

Result

The member's points are corrected, and while blocked or deactivated they cannot sign in to the app or claim rewards.
