The difference between public and private groups, and how private group goals work.
User role: App member
Module: Moves+ app > Explore > Groups
Groups bring members together around shared interests. You find them under Explore > Groups, on the Public groups and My groups tabs. In public groups you take part in challenges on your own. In private groups you work together towards shared goals.
Public groups
Your organisation sets up public groups. Any member can join, and you can join as many as you like.
A public group has three tabs:
- Posts: news and updates from your organisation.
- Challenges: group challenges. Only group members can join them. See How challenges work.
- Members: other members of the group. Tap Add Friend to connect with them.
Private groups
Members create private groups, for example for friends, a team or a class. Only people in the group can see it. You join by accepting an invite in your Inbox, under Group invites.
A private group has two tabs: Goals and Members.
- The person who creates the group owns it. Only the owner can invite people and set goals.
- The owner can only invite people who are already their Moves+ friends.
- You can own up to 10 private groups.
- If the owner leaves, the next member becomes the owner. If everyone leaves, the group is deleted.
- Your organisation can delete any group, including private ones.
Private group goals
A group goal is a shared target for one activity type, such as walking the length of the equator. Everyone in the group adds to it automatically. There is nothing to join. If you log 10,000 steps and a friend logs 5,000 on the same day, the goal moves on by 15,000 steps.
- All recorded activity of the goal's type counts, even on days when you reach your daily points cap.
- The owner can pick a suggested goal or create their own.
- Your organisation sets how many active goals a group can have at once.
- Finishing a goal sends a notification. It does not give bonus points, but you still earn your normal activity points.
- If the owner deletes a goal, its progress is lost for everyone.
