What is a challenge?
A challenge is a goal set by your organisation, such as walking 100,000 steps or running 20 km between two dates. Each challenge is for one activity type: steps, running, cycling or swimming. If you reach the goal before the end date, you earn bonus points.
There are two kinds:
- Global challenges are open to every member.
- Group challenges belong to a public group. You need to join the group first.
You find them under Explore > Challenges. The All challenges tab shows global challenges and challenges from your groups. You can see upcoming challenges, but you can only join once a challenge has started.
One challenge per activity type
You can be in one challenge for each activity type at a time. For example, one steps challenge and one running challenge, but not two steps challenges. Each day's activity can only count towards one challenge of that type. To swap, leave your current challenge and join the other one. Finishing a challenge also frees the slot.
How progress counts
Your recorded activity of the right type counts towards the challenge from the day you join. It still counts on days when you reach your daily points cap. You can see how far you have got on the challenge's Progress tab.
Progress updates when your activity syncs, which happens when you open the app. See How syncing works.
When you finish
- You get a notification, and the bonus points are added shortly after the sync that completes the challenge.
- The bonus is on top of your normal activity points. It does not count towards your daily points cap, and it adds to your lifetime points.
- The prize is shown on the challenge's About tab. Your organisation decides the amount.
- You leave the challenge automatically, so you can join another of the same type.
- Finished challenges appear under My completed challenges on your profile.
Some challenges are run with a partner. These pay points into that partner's separate balance instead of your Moves+ points.
If the challenge ends first
Challenges run until the end of the end date. If you have not reached the goal by then, you do not get the bonus. You keep all the activity points you earned along the way. The challenge then disappears from the list.
