What happens when I connect and disconnect my tracker?

What happens to your points when you first connect a tracker, what happens if you disconnect it, and which trackers you can reconnect.

Time required: 3 minutes

User role: App user

Applies to: iPhone and Android

Module: Moves+ app > Profile > Tracker

Overview

‼️ Read this before you disconnect anything.

If you are connected to Fitbit, Garmin, Withings or Google Fit, disconnecting is permanent. Those trackers are no longer available to connect, so once the connection is gone you cannot get it back. Your only route afterwards is Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android.

If you are connected to Apple Health or Health Connect, you can disconnect and reconnect freely.

When you connect

Moves+ only awards points for activities logged from the moment you first connect your tracker.

  • For example, if you connect your tracker at 4pm, activities from before that time will not count.

When you disconnect

Moves+ stops pulling any activity data. You keep the points you have already earned, and your history and leaderboard position are unaffected, but nothing new is collected until a tracker is connected again.

Always sync before disconnecting. See How do I sync my activity to Moves+? Otherwise you lose points for activity that has not reached Moves+ yet.

Can I reconnect the same tracker?

It depends which one.

Tracker Can you reconnect it?
Apple Health (iPhone) ✅ Yes, as often as you like
Health Connect (Android) ✅ Yes, as often as you like
Fitbit No. Once disconnected it cannot be reconnected
Garmin No. Once disconnected it cannot be reconnected
Withings No. Once disconnected it cannot be reconnected
Google Fit No. Once disconnected it cannot be reconnected

New connections to Fitbit, Garmin, Withings and Google Fit are no longer available, and those trackers are being retired during 2026.

You do not need to do anything yet. During 2026 you will be moved across to Apple Health or Health Connect. This will be a guided process inside the app, and we will notify you before it happens.

Troubleshooting

I have already disconnected one of them. What now?
Connect Apple Health if you are on iPhone, or Health Connect if you are on Android. Most wearables and fitness apps can feed into one of those two, including Samsung Health, Google Fit, Garmin Connect and many watches and rings, so you can usually keep using the device you already own.

Will I lose my points and badges if I switch tracker?
No. Your existing points, badges and history stay with your account throughout. Only the source of new activity changes.

Why did my activity from this morning not count?
Points only start from the moment you connect. Activity logged before that is not backdated.

Should I disconnect and reconnect to fix a syncing problem?
No. Reconnecting is not a fix, and on a retiring tracker it removes your connection permanently. Work through Check List: Why am I missing Moves+ points? instead.
