No. Health Connect is the middle layer, not a tracker. Something else has to record your activity and write it into Health Connect.
Time required: 2 minutes
User role: App user
Applies to: Android only
Module: Moves+ app > Profile > Edit Profile > My Tracker
Overview
No, Health Connect does not track your steps by itself. It stores and shares health and fitness data that other apps write into it.
So the chain looks like this: your phone or your wearable records the activity, its app writes that into Health Connect, and Moves+ reads it from Health Connect.
You need at least one fitness app feeding Health Connect. Your phone's own step counting, Samsung Health, Garmin Connect and Fitbit's own app all work, along with many others. You can see the full list on the Play Store.
Important: only apps that provide step count and activity distance for swimming, running and cycling can send usable activity to Moves+. An app that records only a workout duration will not earn you points.
Troubleshooting
How do I check something is feeding Health Connect?
Open Health Connect on your phone and look at whether it holds recent steps and activity. If it is empty, Moves+ has nothing to read.
Nothing is feeding it. What should I install?
If you have a wearable, install its own app, for example Samsung Health or Garmin Connect, and allow it to write into Health Connect. If you do not have a wearable, your phone's own fitness app can count steps.
Should I disconnect anything to fix it?
No. Please do not disconnect your tracker. Check permissions in Health Connect first, then pull down to refresh the Moves+ home screen and allow a full day.
It is still not working.
Email moves@openplay.co.uk with your phone model and your Moves+ version.
