A step-by-step first launch: from setting up the admin dashboard to members joining and taking part.
Time required: about an hour, plus a check after the first week
User role: Administrator
Module: Moves+ admin
Before you start
- OpenPlay sets up your organisation, sign-in and single sign-on with you before launch.
- You can sign in to the admin dashboard. See The Moves+ admin dashboard.
- Have ready: your logos, your brand colours, your terms for members, the email address members should contact, and a launch date.
Most changes are in Settings in the sidebar. To change a setting, select Edit, enter the Value and select save.
Set up the app
1. Check how members join
If your organisation uses single sign-on, skip this step.
In Settings, set:
- User Signup Type: who can register. If you are not sure which to choose, see How members join: sign-up types, email domains and SSO.
-
Allowed Signup Domains: for both Email Domain types. Replace the example domains with your own, in lower case, separated by a pipe, for example
example.ac.uk|example.org. - Unique ID Reference Shown in App and Unique ID Description Shown in App: for Email Domain and User Import. For example, "Student number".
If you chose User Import, add your members on the User Import page in the sidebar before you invite them.
You should see: your values in the Current Value column.
2. Add your contact email and terms
- Contact Email: members reach this address with Send email on the Help with Moves+ screen.
- Terms of Service: members see these from the sign-up screen and their profile. It starts with placeholder text, so replace it. You can use Markdown.
You should see: your address and your terms, not issues@example.org or the placeholder.
3. Brand the app
In Settings, upload your logos (Logo: Select your institution, Logo: Sign-in and App Logo: Homepage), set the app colours and choose a Title Font. See How to brand the Moves+ app.
You should see: your logos and colours as the current values. You check them in the app in step 7.
4. Check points and decide on a daily cap
In the sidebar, select Points Conversion. It lists one rate for each activity: walking, running, cycling and swimming. By default, 100 steps earn 1 point, so a member who walks 10,000 steps a day earns about 100 points. A changed rate only applies to activity after you save it.
Then decide on a daily cap. It limits the activity points one member can earn in a day. There is none by default. To set one, select Moves Dashboard, then Points in the System configuration card, then Daily Points Settings. Enter the Points Cap and select Save changes.
Decide before you save: once a cap is set, you can change it but you cannot remove it. If you are unsure, launch without one and add it later.
You should see: if you set a cap, "Points daily cap updated." The cap starts the next day. See Points conversion and daily caps.
5. Create a first reward
A handoff reward, such as a free coffee, is the simplest: the member shows their phone to your staff to claim it.
In the sidebar, select Rewards, then Create New Reward. Set the Title, choose handoff as the Claim Type, then set the Cost (In Points), Stock, Description, dates and Main Image. Tick Enabled and select Save. See How to create a reward.
You should see: the reward in the Rewards list.
6. Create a first challenge
A steps challenge that starts on launch day suits most organisations.
In the sidebar, select Challenges, then Create challenge. Fill in the Name, Description, dates and Image. Choose Steps walked as the Activity type, then set the Goal amount, the Prize amount (points) and the Publish date. Select Save. See How to create a challenge.
You should see: the challenge as Unpublished until its publish date, then Published.
Launch
7. Open sign-up and check the app
In Settings, set Signup Enabled to Yes. Your organisation now appears in the app, and members can join.
Download Moves+ on your phone and open it. On Welcome to Moves+, find your organisation. If it is not listed, tap Change country. Tap your organisation to open the sign-in screen.
You should see: your organisation with your logo, then your sign-in logo. If your organisation uses single sign-on, you see Sign in with SSO.
8. Invite your members
Send members the app links:
- iPhone: Moves+ on the App Store
- Android: Moves+ on Google Play
Tell them:
- the name of your organisation to select in the app
- which email address to use and, if you ask for one, which reference to enter
- to verify their email, then connect Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android)
- to open the app every day, because it only syncs activity when it is open
You can link to How do I sign up to Moves+?, or Signing in to Moves+ with your organisation account if you use single sign-on.
9. Schedule a welcome notification
In the sidebar, select App Notifications, then Create New Notification. Write a Title, a Body (Simple) and a Body (Full), for example to welcome members, remind them to connect a tracker and point them to your first challenge.
Leave the Target audience as All Active Users. Untick the exclusion filter for users without an active tracker, so the message also reaches members who have not connected one yet. Choose Schedule for later, pick a date a few days after launch between 07:00 and 19:00, and select Schedule Notification. See How to send app notifications.
You should see: the notification in the list with the status Scheduled.
After the first week
10. Check the dashboard and a report
Select Moves Dashboard. New users shows how many members joined in the last 7 days. Active users and Steps logged show whether activity is coming through.
Then run a report of your members. On the home page, select Reporting, then Create new report. Choose the Moves Users data source and the List type, then select Create. In Fields selector, tick the columns you want, such as tracker and lifetime points, and select Save fields. Select Preview. See How to create a report.
You should see: one row for each member who has joined. Members with no tracker are not earning points yet, so send them a reminder.
You have launched Moves+: members can join, earn points and spend them on your reward.
