Create a global or group challenge that members can join to earn bonus points.
Time required: 10 minutes
User role: Administrator
Module: Moves+ admin > Challenges
A challenge sets a goal for one activity type between two dates. Members who reach the goal get the prize points.
Before you start
Decide if the challenge is global or for one group. This decides where you create it.
| Global challenge | Group challenge | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can join | Every member | Members of that public group only |
| Where you create it | Challenges | Groups, then the group's Challenges tab |
| Earliest start date | Today | Tomorrow |
| Image | Required | Optional |
| How to win and Points type | Available | Not available |
For a group challenge, you need a public group first. See How to create a public group.
Create the challenge
1. Open the form
- Global challenge: in the sidebar, select Challenges, then Create challenge.
- Group challenge: in the sidebar, select Groups. Select View on the group, open the Challenges tab, then select Create challenge.
2. Fill in Basic settings
- Name: 3 to 32 characters.
- Description: up to 1,024 characters. You can format it with Markdown.
- How to win (optional, global only): up to 255 characters. Members see it under "How to win".
- Start date and End date: the challenge ends at the end of the end date.
- Image: JPG or PNG, up to 4 MB, between 300 x 300 and 4000 x 4000 px. It is shown at 512 x 512 px.
3. Fill in Challenge details
- Activity type: Steps walked, Miles run, Miles cycled or Meters swum. Running and cycling show kilometres instead if your Preferred Running Unit or Preferred Cycling Unit setting is Kilometers.
- Goal amount: the steps or distance members must reach. Steps must be a whole number.
- Prize amount (points): the bonus points paid on completion. They are added on top of activity points and do not count towards the daily points cap.
- Points type (global only): shown only if your organisation has partner categories. Leave it as Default points unless this is a partner campaign. See How to set up Partner Points.
4. Set the Publish date and save
Under Publishing, choose the Publish date. Members can see the challenge from this date. It must be on or before the start date. Select Save.
Check before members join: once members have joined a published challenge, you can only change Name, Description and How to win. You cannot edit or delete a challenge after its end date.
Result
The challenge shows as Unpublished until its publish date, then Published, then Past once it ends. To publish it early, open the challenge and select Publish.
Members see a published challenge straight away, but can only join from the start date. Each member can join one challenge per activity type at a time.
