Summary
The owner of a customer group can buy a membership online for anyone in their group, such as a child or partner, without signing in as them.
✅ Choose who the membership is for before choosing the membership.
✅ Only memberships that person can have are shown, so age and other restrictions are checked against them.
✅ The membership belongs to them, and the purchase appears in your own order history.
Before you start
| Prerequisite | Details |
|---|---|
| ✅ Group owner | You must be the owner of a customer group. Admins and dependants in a group can only buy memberships for themselves. |
| ✅ Linked accounts | At least one other person must be linked to your group. See Linking an existing account online or Creating and linking a new dependant online. |
| ✅ Signed in | You must be signed in to your own account. |
Step-by-step guide
1. Start buying a membership
Sign in and select Buy a Membership, then choose a home centre, as you would for yourself.
2. Choose who the membership is for
- A new step, Choose which user, asks who the membership is for.
- Under Membership for, you are listed first, marked (You), followed by the people in your group. You are selected to begin with.
- Choose the person, then select Save and continue.
3. Choose a membership
Only the memberships that person can have are shown, based on their age and any other restrictions. If you tick Show ineligible memberships, the others are shown too, but they cannot be chosen.
4. Check their details
The membership uses the details already held for that person, so you are not asked to enter your own details.
5. Answer any additional questions
If the membership asks additional questions, answer them about the person the membership is for.
6. Complete the purchase
Choose a start date, pay, and continue to checkout as normal. Membership for: and the person's name are shown in the summary, at checkout and on the confirmation, so you can check who you are buying for.
After you buy
- The membership is active on that person's account, not yours.
- You pay for it, and the purchase appears in your order history.
- To buy for someone else in your group, start again and choose them.
Good to know
- Refreshing the page takes you back to Choose which user with yourself selected, so choose the person again before you continue.
- If you change the person after choosing a membership they cannot have, the membership is cleared and you choose again.
- If you have no linked accounts, you will not see Choose which user, and buying a membership works exactly as before.
Troubleshooting
I do not see the Choose which user step.
You need to be the owner of a customer group with at least one other person linked to it. If you are an admin or a dependant in someone else's group, you can only buy for yourself.
Someone in my group is not in the list.
If you invited them to link their existing account, they need to accept the invitation first. They will appear once they have.
The membership I want is not shown.
Memberships are filtered for the person you chose, so an age or other restriction may stop them having it. Tick Show ineligible memberships to see which memberships they cannot have.
Can I change, cancel or freeze a membership for someone in my group?
This article covers buying one. For any other change to their membership, contact your centre.
Who pays for the membership?
You do. The payment is taken from you and the purchase appears in your order history, while the membership itself sits on the other person's account.
