How to deactivate a user

Deactivate a user who should no longer use Moves+, one at a time or in bulk, and reactivate them if needed.

Time required: 5 minutes

User role: Administrator

Module: Moves+ admin > Users

Before you start

When you deactivate a user, they:

  • cannot sign in to the app, or register again with the same email address
  • have their tracker disconnected, so no new points are added
  • are removed from all their groups
  • keep their history in your reports

You can reactivate them later, but their tracker and groups are not restored. They reconnect their tracker and rejoin groups themselves.

Deactivate one user

1. Open the user

Go to Users, search for the user, then select View.

2. Select Change User Status

Select Change User Status. This button shows only for Active or Deactivated users. For any other status, use the bulk steps below.

3. Confirm the change

Check the Current Status and New Status. Enter a Reason. Tick I have read the above and am happy to update this user's status. Select Save.

To reactivate a deactivated user, follow the same steps. No reason or tick is needed.

Deactivate users in bulk

1. Open Bulk Edit Status

Go to Users and select Bulk Edit Status.

2. Download the template

Select Download Bulk Status Edit Template. The file has three columns: email, status and reason.

3. Fill in the template

Add one row per user:

  • email: the user's email address
  • status: deactivated or active (no other values)
  • reason: required when the status is deactivated

Save the file as a CSV.

4. Upload the file

Under Import CSV, choose your file and select Submit.

Result

After a bulk upload you see Import Complete with the number of records edited. The users show as Deactivated in the Users list. If they try to sign in, the app tells them their account has been deactivated and gives your organisation's contact email.

Tip: To stop someone using Moves+ for a short time only, block them instead.
