Intro to Adjustments

This guide explains how to add, manage, and apply different types of adjustments at various levels (Global, Setting Group, or Facility). You will also learn how restrictions based on membership type, age, time band, and other factors affect adjustment qualification. This guide provides real-world scenarios to illustrate how these adjustments function.

 


 

Adjustment Levels: Global, Setting Group, and Centre

Adjustments can be set at three levels:

  1. Global Level: Applies to all facilities.
  2. Setting Group Level: Applies to a group of facilities.
  3. Facility (Centre) Level: Applies to individual facilities.
  • Rule of Specificity: The adjustment at the lowest level (most specific) will always take precedence, even if it results in a higher price. For example:

    • Scenario: A Global adjustment gives a 10% discount, resulting in a £5 price, while a Facility-level adjustment results in a £6 price. If the customer is booking at that facility, the £6 adjustment will be applied because the facility-level rule overrides the global adjustment.
  • Exception: Price Override Adjustments always take priority, even if they result in a higher price than other adjustments.


Types of Adjustments

Adjustment Type Description Example
% Discount Reduces the qualifying price by a percentage. A 10% discount on a £10 price reduces the price to £9.
Fixed Amount Sets the price to a specific fixed amount. A £4 fixed amount adjustment on a £10 item will set the price to £4.
Fixed Discount Reduces the price by a fixed amount, but the price cannot drop below £0. A £4 fixed discount on a £10 price results in a £6 price.
Price Override Sets the price to a fixed amount, overriding all other qualifying prices, even if those prices are lower. If a price override of £8 is set, the final price will be £8 even if another price qualifies at £5.

 


 

Membership Type & Membership Group Restrictions

Adjustments can be restricted to specific membership types or membership groups. If a customer has multiple memberships, more than one membership-restricted adjustment may be applied.

  • Scenario: A gym offers a 20% discount to Gold Members and a 10% discount to Silver Members on personal training sessions. If the session normally costs £50, the price would be £40 for Gold Members and £45 for Silver Members.

Age Restriction

Adjustments can be restricted based on the customer’s age. This is useful for creating age-specific offers, such as child or senior discounts.

  • Scenario: A pool charges £5 for children (ages 3-12) and £8 for adults. If an adjustment offers a 50% discount for children, the price for a 10-year-old would be £2.50. If the customer’s age is unknown, the adjustment will not apply.

Timeband Restriction

Adjustments can be restricted to specific time periods (e.g., off-peak or promotional hours).

  • Scenario: Your Leisure Centre offers a £2 discount on classes during off-peak hours (before 5 PM). If a customer tries to book a 3 PM class, the £2 discount applies. However, if they book a 7 PM show, the adjustment will not qualify.

Active Date Range

Adjustments can be limited to specific active start and end dates. This is useful for seasonal promotions or limited-time offers.

  • Scenario: A gym offers a special summer promotion, where classes are discounted by 15% from June 1 to August 31. Outside of these dates, the adjustment will not apply.

Home Centre Override

You can restrict adjustments based on the customer’s home centre, which is the facility associated with their membership.

Option Description
Only apply if this IS the customer's home centre The adjustment will qualify if the customer books at their home centre (the facility where their membership is based).
Only apply if this is NOT the customer's home centre The adjustment will apply if the customer is booking at a facility outside their home centre but within their membership's allowed area.
Apply if this IS the customer's home centre OR within their membership’s area group The adjustment will apply if the customer is booking either at their home centre or within any facility included in their membership.
  • Scenario: A member with a home centre in Facility A gets a 15% discount when booking activities there. If they book at Facility B, which is part of the same membership area group, the discount still applies. However, if they book at Facility C, which is not part of their area group, no discount will be given.

Outside-Membership Adjustment

This option applies the adjustment only if the customer has a membership, but is booking an activity at a facility outside their membership's area group.

  • Scenario: A customer with a gym membership at Facility A gets a 10% discount when booking activities at Facility B, which is outside their membership's allowed facilities.

Adjustment Groups

Adjustment groups prevent the same adjustment from being reapplied multiple times in a single purchase. It ensures the adjustment is only applied to the most expensive item in the cart.

  • Scenario: A family is purchasing tickets for a swimming session:
    • Family Ticket: £20
    • Adult Ticket: £10
    • Child Ticket: £5
    If a 100% discount is applied as part of an adjustment group, the system will apply the discount to the most expensive item first. In this case, the £20 Family Ticket will be discounted, leaving the total price at £15 (£10 for the Adult Ticket and £5 for the Child Ticket). If the Family Ticket is removed from the cart, the discount will apply to the next most expensive item, the Adult Ticket.

Once the purchase is completed, the adjustment will not be available for future use on the same item, unless the customer books a different session (e.g., a later time or different day).
